What is terry?

Terry cloth is a
woven fabric that has uncut loops on the pile. It is made with two sets of
warp yarns, where one set is under very little tension. When the
weft, or filling, yarns are packed into place, these loose yarns are pushed backward along with the filling yarns and loops are formed. Because of its high absorbency, it is commonly used for towels, bathrobes and cloth diapers.
