What are nitrosamines?
Nitrosamines, are chemicals produced from nitrates and amines under certain extreme conditions.
Where is it found?
Foods: Cooking certain meats at extreme temperatures (such as frying, grilling, or barbecuing) can cause the amino acids in the animal proteins to turn into nitrosamines. Also found in beer, cheeses, and in foods preserved with nitrites. Latex: Condoms, balloons(1) and rubber nipples and teethers made from latex rubber also contain nitrosamines (Note that nitrosamines are not naturally found in latex rubber, but are added during processing). Tobacco products.
Why should I be concerned?
Nitrosamines are suspected carcinogens and endocrine disrupters, and may cause organ system toxicity.
